Sorry for my absence for a minute, had to catch up with my life after the semester. Weekend wasnt that bad, although windsor is like a ghost town right about now but thanks to the new friend i made and the almighty CALL OF DUTY 2 MODERN WARFARE I have been kinda busy. So yea over the weekend I heard a new African restaurant was opened in town, so my man and I decided to go check it out and I was fucking hungry like a muthafucka so I made some calls and got the address, Erie and Howard and am thinking, isn’t that the same spot that Mediterranean restaurant use to be with the shitty food lol, anyways we drove off towards that direction and the spot was packed as fuck and everyone was dressed up so am thinking like this is some formal shit and am wearing a white tee, not in no form dressed for this occasion so we decided to find out if we can order for to go and just get something to take home. Now there is this dude sitting by the door wearing his 1500 A.K.A Agbada looking clean like a detergent with a guest list. So he saw us by the door and came over and invited us in but we turned down his invite and ask if we can order takeaway and dude says they don’t offer that and today is their grand opening and all that blazeeblazee so I asked to see the menu. They got the regular jollof and fried rice and wat not and pounded yam and they soup but I also saw some odd stuff like mealie soup, WTF is that and a couple other strange items. And this man said also they don’t deliver. WTF. First of all there are a lot of things I see wrong with this restaurant already. First the location. This spot is at fucking Erie and Howard. So I live by the campus like most students and the price of a cab there is on average $12 one way. If you drive, it’s a journey just to go get food when there are tons of Chinese restaurants and chau’s kitchen (yes chau’s aint no fucking Chinese restaurant. Have you eva seen a china man in there or some white kid? Only negros eat there), harveys, Pizza spot, subway, McDonalds, kfc, Jubba, pho xic-lo and the list goes on. There are also a lot of restaurants downtown which is on ur way there. I say all this because majority of the africans who live in Windsor live on the Westside which is the opposite side of town cos this restaurant is in the central part. Second the demographic they trying to cater to or should be catering to are the students because students tend to eat out more than these families out here (why eat out when there is a wife at home who should better know how to cook) and erie street is too far of a mission for a student to get food, cost wise and time. Where they no place for lease around the Westside preferably 5 block radius from campus? Third their service better be on point, I don’t wanna have to wait an hour for my food, proper restaurant etiquette says you should keep the customer waiting for his or her food longer than 15 mins and during this wait, drinks or appetiters should be served. The only reason I still fuck with dragons inn although they bitches with no manners ova there is that they don’t keep you waiting for your food and the food is proper. A bunch of these nigerians restaurants have come and gone because they don’t fucking understand the meaning of being on time. They take their bloody time to get ur food to you and sometimes the quality of the food is horrible and I think they do this cos they believe they doing you a favor but instead this is fucking business, don’t waste my time for 2 hrs just to bring my food and I ordered fucking pounded yam and egusi soup not semovita and a lil egusi soup with lots of stew inside a plastic bag. If the soup spilled on ur way coming into the back, you turn around and go fix it and come back quickly not hand me the bullshit and tell me NO VEX, MA BINU. Am not fuckin Yoruba so speak English and you also taking advantage of the fact that am Nigerian and of course wouldn’t disrespect you cos my mom raised me better but Lord know that if it was some other restaurant I did give the delivery guy an earful. Also Erie street is lil Italy, it’s a European community with residents from Italy, Poland, Ukraine and all, so why would you think that would be a right location to have ur African restaurant? So next man tried to convince me that the owner is going for a classy feel. Lmao. Okay to me that doesn’t make sense, why because if I want to go for a nice dinner with the first lady, my options are, artist cafĂ© at the casino or the steakhouse on Chatham or some fancy Greek or Italian restaurant on Erie street or the keg or moxie. Dinner outings fall under that too. If I want a good meal, I go to pho xic-lo or red papaya or JP or somewhere decent with a lil twist. The Nigerian restaurant can fall into this category but the distance is now a problem. My advice to them is to introduce delivery at a reasonable cost. I would not pay fucking 5 bucks for no fucking delivery. Dragons inn charge 3 dollars for delivery and sometimes I wonder if they deliver with fighter jets cos they arrive too fast and also have change on them. They don’t tell you ur food is 33 bucks and you give them a 40 and man opens his mouth and these bloody words come out I DON’T HAVE CHANGE, HOW ABOUT I OWE YOU AND THE NEXT TIME YOU CALL TO ORDER YOU REMIND US AND WE DEDUCT IT FROM YOUR BILL. First am neva calling back because if this bullshit you just pulled here and why you take a 30 and let me owe you 3 instead of you owing me 7 huh?
At the end of the day, I wish them all the best cos we sure do need a Nigerian restaurant in this city cos am tired of the bullshit that other woman is pulling and I wonder why she thinks she needs to be address as AUNTY wateva her name is, you are not in Nigeria anymore so cut that crap and when you do business you are either addressed by ur first or last name or a snap of the fingers. Lmao so my boy says he gives them till September to close their doors but I think they might last longer cos they look well planned and all. Oh well I just realized this shit is too long, but I like I said earlier, I just type as I think and sorry for wasting some minutes in ur poor life.
